ABOUT

Stella Maclaine (she/they) is a filmmaker, dancer, and writer from rural Texas, now based in New York City.

Stella's film work spans all stages of production, working as an actress and production designer for independent shorts and features, as well as a producer, writer, director, and editor of personal projects. Her 5th short film STILETTO (2021), written, co-produced, co-directed, and edited alongside June Shaukat, won "Best Student Short Film" at Boobs & Blood International Film Festival and was a finalist for "Best Lead Performance" at Nightmares Film Festival and "Best Horror Short" at Austin After Dark Film Festival and Austin Short Film Showcase.

After relocating to New York in 2022, Stella oversaw content creation and social media for the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance. Her work for the company has been featured in PBS ALL ARTS, Vogue, and Fjord Review, as well as on the @somosnovaeva Instagram page. In April 2024, Stella originated and project-managed the company's collaboration with FKA twigs for the 2024 New York season, who performed Martha Graham's Satyric Festival Song at New York City Center.

In October 2024, Stella choreographed her first dance-on-film, Augustine, in collaboration with New York photographer Peter McCain. She will choreograph her second for M.W. Willgrub's upcoming short film, Art & Rot, filming in fall 2025.

In her free time, Stella enjoys spending time with friends, dancing, studying occultism, and playing a ridiculous amount of Sims 4.
